ABOUT ARTIST BARRY CONNER:
BARRY CONNER is an American artist whose work has attracted attention since childhood. From the time he began walking and talking, Barry was doing artwork. Growing up in East Texas, he participated in and excelled at countless art shows and contests. Very early on, his parents recognized his ability and interest, provided materials, took him to art exhibits and museums, and supported him through every endeavor and opportunity. By age twelve, Barry had participated in an adult exhibit of wildlife art with The Audubon Society and sold acrylic paintings at the downtown arts and crafts fair. He even was the subject of the feature magazine in the local newspaper. He embraced every opportunity both in school and on his own time to pursue his artwork. Eventually, Barry went on to major in Fine Arts at Sam Houston State University, with a Studio Art emphasis in Sculpture; and studied under such notable artists as sculptor Charles Pebworth, printmaker Stanley E. Lea, and painters Gaddis Geeslin and Harry J. Ahysen. Relocating recently with his wife, from Huntsville to the Kingwood-Humble area northeast of Houston, Barry’s work was then exhibited in the 2014 Small Works Show at The Red Palette Art Gallery (Humble). He is actively developing new large paintings, an emphasis since 2013 and soon to be shown in Tremont Gallery (Galveston) and the Barry Conner Gallery of Art; and he recently accepted the position of assistant to Marilyn Biles, the internationally acclaimed Houston painter. Barry’s professional experience, artistic vision, and versatility span the range of genre and art media, and his passion and joy for creating Fine Art remains undimmed — whether his spontaneous originals or the unique commissioned works imagined and created for a client.
